Check Me Out
Focus • Engagement • Disengagement • Connection

Description
A focus and engagement game that teaches your dog to check in with you voluntarily, even when there’s plenty to explore. By rewarding natural orientation back to you, your dog learns that connection is always worthwhile and rewarding.
How to Play
Stand quietly with your dog on lead or long line in a low-distraction space. Wait for them to glance toward you.
When they check in, feed two or three treats in quick succession to build value for that moment of connection.
Gently toss one treat away from you. When your dog eats it and immediately looks back, mark and feed again.
Repeat, varying the distance of the tossed treat to make re-orientation a fun challenge.
Practise on walks too — simply capture and reward every natural glance or check-in to keep connection flowing.
Why it Matters
Check Me Out strengthens focus and communication without pressure. It transforms environmental curiosity into shared awareness, teaching your dog that staying connected pays off. Over time, it nurtures thoughtful engagement and reliable attention, even in distracting places.
Tips for Success
Reward generously at first — multiple treats keep value high.
Keep your body language calm and neutral.
Use soft praise or food, not excitement, to maintain focus.
Practise in easy environments before adding distractions.
