Harness Confidence
Confidence • Optimism • Proximity • Body Awareness

Description
A gentle, choice-led way to build positive emotions around your dog’s harness. Harness Confidence helps your dog feel safe, optimistic, and empowered when interacting with their walking equipment. Perfect for dogs who are worried about the harness going over their head, feeling pressure around their body, or simply needing a confidence boost during handling.
How to Play
Begin by holding the harness behind your back, then bring it out briefly so your dog can see it. Reward any small sign of interest — a look, a sniff, or a step towards it. Feed away from the harness to reset.
Continue presenting the harness and rewarding orientation. Keep movements slow and predictable. If your dog turns away or hesitates, pause and reduce the intensity.
When your dog is comfortable, feed from the harness — place treats near the neck opening or on the straps so they associate it with positive feelings.
Allow your dog to choose to put their head through. Let them dip in and out, keeping the food flowing to prevent pressure. Never push or guide their head; this must be voluntary.
Gradually progress to lifting the harness over their ears, placing it around their body, and fastening straps. Keep sessions short and always go at your dog’s pace.
Why it Matters
Many dogs feel unsure about having equipment placed over their head or body. Harness Confidence replaces pressure with choice, building emotional safety and trust. When a dog learns they can approach, retreat, and engage freely, their confidence grows — making daily walks calmer, easier, and more enjoyable for both of you.
