Turn to Me
Focus • Connection • Regulation • Proximity

Description
A simple yet powerful connection game that teaches your dog to orientate back to you after moving away. It helps build focus, loose lead walking, and recall, while teaching your dog to stay emotionally connected and keep moving calmly without getting stuck.
How to Play
Gently toss a piece of food out to the side of you so your dog moves away to find it.
Allow them to take their time — don’t call or praise while they eat.
The moment they finish and look back towards you, mark that moment (“Nice!” or “Good!”).
Reward them by tossing another piece of food in the opposite direction, so they move calmly past your body to find it.
Keep the rhythm slow and predictable: out to the side → turn → mark → throw → repeat. Practise on and off lead to build fluency and flow.
Why it Matters
Turn to Me teaches your dog that orientating to you is safe, rewarding, and part of a calm rhythm — not something they’re commanded to do. By rewarding the choice to reorient rather than the act of eating, you strengthen voluntary focus and smooth transitions. This prevents dogs from getting “stuck,” supports loose lead walking, and builds effortless communication through movement.
Tips for Success
Keep your tone neutral and your body relaxed — no rushing.
Avoid marking while your dog is eating; wait for that moment of orientation.
Keep throws small and gentle to maintain a calm pace.
Practise in low-distraction areas before taking it outdoors.
